Hyde Girls JV Basketball had its first game of the season at home Saturday afternoon against St. Andrew’s. Many players were brand new to the sport and were excited to have their first taste of competition. Hope Eldridge ’11 scored the first points of the game for the Lady Wolfpack, ultimately scoring ten points total. Throughout the game, Elridge’s tenacity and spirit set a great example for the rest of her teammates, such as newcomers Bryn Nolan ’12 and Laura Dosch ’11, who both worked hard and hustled to the ball. Caitlin Barrett ’10 made a perfect free throw in the first half, scoring her first point as a senior. At the end of the first half, Hyde had managed to hold St. Andrew’s to just a two point lead. Unfortunately, the team could not match their opponent’s intensity in the second half and started to lose focus, ultimately losing to St. Andrew’s 11-31. Looking ahead to future games, the team will need to work on conditioning and improving their skills and tactical maneuvers. More importantly, the team must develop the confidence needed to play aggressively and to hold their heads high, no matter what the score is. The team’s next game is not until January, but they are excited about by what they have seen so far and hope to reach the high potential they have this season.
