Wolfpack - 53
St. Luke’s - 54

The varsity boys squad dropped a close game in dramatic fashion to NEPSAC Class D powerhouse St. Luke’s, which pushes their overall record to 7-6 on the season. Hyde held a one-point edge with 5 seconds on the clock when St. Luke’s went to the charity stripe for two shots. After the visiting squad sank both freebies giving them a one-point lead, Senior Chris Velez let go of a one-foot half court shot that skimmed the side of the rim leaving the Wolfpack stunned by a 54-53 defeat.

Evenly matched throughout the contest, Hyde and St. Luke’s were knotted at 28 heading into the break. The Wolfpack continued their shooting woes, finishing the second half with a 9-26 shooting effort from the field, and 20-56 for the game. However, Hyde received strong games from both Jumah Sutton ‘11, Mike Cannon ‘11, and Velez. Sutton, who played his best game of the season, collected team highs of 17 points and 5 assists while also grabbing 10 rebounds. Cannon tossed in 9 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Velez added 10 points on 4-9 shooting.

Hyde, who had their 3 game winning streak snapped, returns to action Wednesday against neighboring Pomfret at 2pm.
