Marianapolis - 6

On Tuesday, Hyde-Woodstock’s varsity tennis team faced Marianapolis, a team which had soundly defeated the Wolfpack 2 weeks prior. Although Marianapolis again emerged victorious, Hyde showed significantly more toughness and resolve in this matchup. In the 1st singles position, Richard Schuller ’12 played tough against a savvy opponent, ultimately losing 3-8. Blake Bohls ’10, in a 2nd singles contest that was far closer than the score indicated, fought for every point in a 2-8 loss. 3rd singles player Sarah DeNunzio ‘11 played inspired tennis in a 4-8 defeat. In the team’s lone victory of the day, Matt Williams ‘11 battled a wrist injury to win 8-4 from the 4th singles position. All three doubles teams (Hope Eldridge ‘11 & Sarah Sherman ‘12; Zach Rosenbaum ‘10 & Nick Sackman ’11; and Caitlin Barrett ’10 & Kun-Il Kim ‘12) were defeated 1-8. However, each pair fought tough in picking up a game against the opponent. Overall, the Wolfpack showed major strides in both skill and mental toughness, as the team collectively tripled the number of won games from the previous matchup with Marianapolis.
