Bath Athletics

Welcome to the Hyde-Bath Athletics site and the Spring 2012 season!

Tyler Plourde

At Hyde, our athletic curriculum is an integral part of our overall philosophy. All students are expected to play sports in three seasons, and they are expected to play them to their very best ability. Sports provide an avenue for the practiced athlete to realize their dreams of a championship, but also a place for the less experienced to learn confidence and be provided with feedback on a very immediate basis.

After being inside throughout the winter months the Phoenix are ready to soar back outside and take their competitive spirit to the track, the tennis courts and the lacrosse fields. In this, our shortest season at Hyde school, we look forward to longer afternoons, warmer days and a few more victories to send us into the summer.

To make the spring even more interesting, the race for the 2012 President’s Cup is tied going into the final season of competition with our sister school down in Woodstock, CT. With 11 points up for grabs, all culminating at Bath’s family weekend on April 21st, the race is bound to add some excitement to an already exciting time.

The Track and Field program is looking to build off a successful winter season by adding more athletes and coaches to the mix. Headed by Ken Grant, long time Hyde faculty and Track coach, the runners, throwers and jumpers hope to steal one from Woodstock when they travel down to open up their season. Coaching with Ken will be new addition Peter Rowe. A long time track coach and sporting enthusiast, Rowe should bring energy and excitement to a mostly returning track coaching staff. The other returning coaches include Baxter Bullock, Mukhaye Muchimuti, Heidi Randall and Fan Luo.

The 2011 MAISAD Champion tennis team looks to defend its title as it takes to the courts this spring. It will need to fill some holes in the lineup in order to do so, as last year’s team was senior laden, but behind the returning number one singles player, the tennis players hope to hold on to the title. Hyde Tennis is coached by Randy Smith and he is joined this year by a new coach, Alex Smith. Randy and Alex are both hoping to build off of last year’s success.

Boys Varsity Lacrosse will have a new face leading the charge this year. Jesse Sataloff steps up from the assistant role to take over as the head coach of the boy’s lacrosse program. Joining him will be new faculty member Ned Kegan. They hope to bring youth and enthusiasm to a program rich with Hyde history.

Casey Sanborn returns to coach Girls Varsity Lacrosse this spring. After a year away from Hyde, Casey is back to lead the lady phoenix through another spring season. Coaching with her will be Eva George, who led the girls last spring. The girls hope to recapture their MAISAD winning ways of two years ago.

Boys Junior Varsity Lacrosse, or Future Varsity as head coach John Romac likes to call it will look to build their skills and dig out some ground balls and some wins this season. With John will be Demetri Rosette, the associate trainer and lacrosse enthusiast. Together the coaches hope to bring energy and learning while picking up some wins in the quest for a JV MAISAD title.

GO MIGHTY PHOEINX!
