On Saturday the Boys JV Wolfpack played against Deerfield in their last game of the season. In the first half, things were looking grim for the Wolfpack, and Deerfield quickly took the lead, 23-7. After a timeout and an inspirational speech from coach Saucier, Hyde came back out with a completely new attitude, and went on a 13-3 run to end the half only down by 6, 20-26. In the second half Hyde continued taking over, and tied the game back up. The fans really inspired the players, cheering their hearts out. Our JV team took over in the second half and never looked back. The final score of the JV game was Hyde 58, Deerfield 49.

Everybody on the team played with hustle after a slow start. Derek Kubitz ’11 came out strong in the second half, scoring all of his 11 points, showing great hustle, and never giving up. Brian Sanz ’11 ended the season on a great note, fouling out to continue the tradition, but scoring 8 points. Evan Dienstag ’11 showed great toughness, getting boards left and right, and scored 12 points. Giovanni Capri ’11 played great on the offensive end, scoring 13 points. To all the seniors on the team great season, and it was great playing with everyone.

On Wednesday the Hyde Boys JV Wolfpack team had a game at home against Tabor Academy. Both teams started off very sluggish, and there wasn’t a score until about 4 minutes into the game. Once Hyde scored, though, they never looked back and quickly took the advantage, plowing ahead of Tabor. At half the Wolfpack was up by 28-14. In the second half, Hyde’s bench players came in and were able to easily hold on and even extend the lead. The final score was Hyde 47- Tabor 27.

Once again every player got into the game, and either scored or played great defense. It was by far the Wolfpack’s best defense game of the year. Everyone played well.

Boys JV basketball traveled up to Providence Country Day school on Monday looking for revenge against the Knights. Last time the two teams matched up, Hyde only had 7 players due to team technical difficulties, and barely lost. This game was a different story, Hyde came out strong quickly gaining the advantage and taking up a 12 point lead but were only up by 7 at the end of the half, 23-16. In the second half Hyde picked up right where they left off and were able to pull away and win the game.

Everybody on the Hyde JV 40-man roster got in the game and contributed to the end results. Derek Kubitz ’11 played wel,l scoring 10 points, and played great defense. Brian Sanz ’11, and Giovanni Capri ’11 played well throughout the game, contributing as usual. This win snaps a Hyde 4-game losing streak.

Boys JV Basketball traveled down the road to Rectory on Friday to face their talented freshmen team. The game was played in four eight-minute quarters, instead of two sixteen-minute halves. Both teams came our strong, and neither team had an advantage in the first quarter, and at the end, the Wolfpack was down by 1 point, 16-17. In the second quarter, Rectory kicked it up a notch and started taking control, quickly taking a 17 point lead but at the end of the quarter, the Wolfpack finished on a 6-0 run to end the quarter 23-34. In the third quarter Rectory really started taking the lead and one of their player’s knocked down four 3-pointers in a row, and by the end of the third, Rectory had a 20 point lead. In the fourth quarter, the Wolfpack didn’t give up and still played extremely well, even if the end result didn’t show it. The final score was Rectory 74, Hyde 52.

Brian Sanz ’11 had a great game, hustling up and down the court, scoring 10 points, and getting a few steals. Derek Kubitz ’11 played well, scoring his first 3 pointer of the season and finishing the game with 11 points. Evan Deinstag ’11 played well, having to guard one of their biggest kids, and played great defense throughout the game.

On Wednesday the Boys JV Basketball team hosted Marianapolis looking for revenge from the last time they played losing by two points at the last minute. Both teams’ defenses looked very good from the start, neither team getting more than a two point lead, and at half time the score was 16-17, with Marianapolis in the lead. Turnover plagued the Wolfpack throughout the entire game, resulting in most of Marianapolis’ points. In the second half Marianapolis quickly jumped to a six point lead and was able to hold onto that lead throughout the rest of the second half winning 38-46.
Derek Kubitz ’11 had a slow start to the game but was able to bounce back in the second half, hustling and playing hard getting 10 points. Giovanni continued to show his dominance after coming back from his injury having a team high 11 points. Brian Sanz ’11 played well, forcing a lot of turnovers and dropping 8 points.
The Wolfpack looks to bounce back from their 3 game losing streak at a very good Rectory team on Friday.

On Saturday the Boy JV Basketball team hosted Masters, looking to bounce back from their worst loss of the year. It was a nailbiter and neither team had more than a 6 point lead. In the first half both offenses were playing very well and as a result the score going into half time was 36-30, with Hyde leading. The Wolfpack’s defense improved in the second half and with about 1 minute left Hyde was down by one point. The Wolfpack forced a bad shot and got the rebound, pushed the ball down the court, and scored getting a one point lead. Masters took the ball out and held it for about 30 seconds and finally one of their players took an amazing drive and laid it in getting their one point lead back. Hyde had about 14 seconds to score, but unfortunately was unable to pull out a game winner.

Giovanni Capri ’11 had a great game, coming back from an ankle injury, putting up 17 points, almost all by 3 pointers. Brian Sanz ’11 and Scott McNeil ’11 both played very well, sharing the ball and hustling throughout the entire game.

On Wednesday the Boys JV Basketball team hosted Wheeler. The last time the two teams played, Hyde ended up pulling away by five points. This game however had a much different outcome. Perhaps the Wolfpack was too overconfident, but in the first half Wheeler came out strong, quickly gaining a lead and holding on to it to finish the half, 28-14. In the second half the Wolfpack had a strong start, quickly scoring and decreasing Wheelers lead to eight, 22-30. Unfortunately, the JV squad couldn’t use the momentum to come back, and ended up losing 24-37. It was without a doubt, the teams lowest scoring game of the year, and their biggest loss of the season.

St. Thomas More:45

The boys JV Basketball team traveled up to Saint Thomas More on Wednesday, hoping to continue their win streak. The Wolfpack’s offense struggled in the first half only getting 18 points, but their defense was able to keep them close to STM with the score only 18-22 at the end of the half. At the beginning of the second half the Wolfpack came out strong and tied the game up at 22 apiece, and until about five minutes left in the game, both teams exchanged baskets. Then STM went on a run and got their lead up to 10, with about three and a half minutes to go. Hyde refused to throw the towel in, and Brian Sanz ’11 got two steals and got a quick four points. With about a minute and a half to go Hyde was down by three, and Zack Cerame ’11 hit a huge three-pointer to tie the game at 42-42. Hyde took the lead with about forty seconds to go, and ended the game shooting free-throws and won 48-45.
Brian Sanz, had a game high 16 points and was a huge factor finishing the game, he was also able to stay out of foul trouble and ended only with one foul. Zack Cerame hit two big three pointers, one to tie the game, and another just for the fun of it. Overall a great comeback and win by the Wolfpack. This win shows that this JV Wolfpack is a powerhouse team in the second half and does not give up.

The Boys JV Basketball team took on St. Andrews on their home court on Saturday. The Wolfpack came out completely in sync, scoring baskets and defending in what was probably their best game of the season. No one got into foul trouble and every player contributed to the win. Hyde’s offense was on a roll from the toss, at one point leading a 13-point run before St. Andrews scored. At the half the score was 12-29, with the Wolfpack leading. The team dominated the second half with a final score of 56-29.

Brian Sanz ’11 and Scott McNeil ’11 led the early charge, with each player scoring 13 points. Evan Deinstag ’11 played through an injury and was still able to contribute to the win. Kyle Frietag ’11 had a monstrous game, dropping two three-pointers and an ‘and one.’ Zach Burnbaum ’10 had his first points off a nice assist from Nate Chesley ’11 who also played exceedingly well.

With a 6-4 season record, the team travels to Rhode Island on Saturday for a rematch with St. Thomas More.

The Boys JV Basketball team traveled up to Williams on Wednesday, hoping to increase their winning streak. The game started off very slowly, with neither teams scoring until about 4 minutes into the game. Williams took off going on a 13-3 run, but the Wolfpack finished the half strong, cutting the lead to only four points, 11-15. The second half was nothing like the first half. The Wolfpack’s offense looked good as they took a fast six-point lead. Unfortunately Williams was able to get back into the game due to foul trouble by the Wolfpack. With about six minutes left, Williams was in the bonus, where every foul, including non-shooting, were free throws. Slowly Williams came back, and took the lead with about 1 minute left. Brian Sanz ’11 and Derek Kubitz ’11 fouled out, and Williams never looked back. The final score was 31-35, Williams.

Derek Kubitz ’11 had 14 points. Jared Fraioli’11 had a career high of 2 points, also his first points of the season, and helped launch the beginning of Hyde’s run in the beginning of the second half. Evan Deinstag ’11 played very well and had a good game.
